Speaking through the blitz
Being Trans in the U.S. is terrifying right now. There are many people detailing why that is - erasure, losing our bodily autonomy, losing our healthcare, having passports confiscated by government officials, increasing danger from the Nazis, so many things. They have been trying to blitz us with executive actions, drama, distractions, and other news stories. If they pile so much onto us that we are exhausted, the people will just allow the fascism to flourish. Right?
It doesn’t seem to be working. People around the world have been protesting support for the U.S. citizens. The executive orders are being challenged and struck down in the courts.
That doesn’t make us safe. It doesn’t make anything better, not does it mean the danger is over.
We have to remember to take care of ourselves so we can keep fighting. Do not allow them to drag down your spirits. Do not allow the mountains of bullshit to exhaust you to the point of defeat. Keep speaking truth.
For me and my fellow Trans siblings, we must keep living our authentic lives. We must stay as safe as possible. We must find those little moments of joy and hold on to them, for Trans love is resistance. The Nazis want us to be ashamed of ourselves, but we will never allow that to happen. For me, I live my life as authentically as possible with the hope that other Transgender people may see me and feel more comfortable with themselves. For some, I might be the first trans person they have ever encountered. Representation matters, especially when they are trying to destroy us.
I have been writing. It is the main reason I wake up in the morning. I need to write like I need to breathe. I have been working on the third book in the Unbowed series. Book two is with a beta reader right now, and hopefully will be sent for editing in the near future. I can’t wait to share it with you.
Writing is my contribution to the world. I will not allow the Nazis to silence me.
Stay safe. You are loved. <3
