Resistance
I sit here and mourn the false sense of safety and security we, collectively, have lost. This isn’t to say this is a new feeling but one I have been thinking about for at least two years. Little by little we have seen the worst examples of humanity rise to power on the backs of devoted, brainwashed acolytes who venerate these fascist fiends to godly status. They seek to destroy our community, our spirit, our hope, our dreams, because if they break us down enough they think we will submit, follow, and never rise against them.
They will try to silence us, but we will not fall silent. We will keep talking. We will keep posting. We will write our books and stories and articles dreaming of better futures. We will never settle for their lies and abuse. If they take one platform away we will move to another. If they try to take our voice we will scream even louder for our rights.
I am considering leaving Meta platforms - facebook, instagram, and threads. I do not remain on a platform that allows abuse, lies, misinformation, transphobia, homophobia, misogyny, and hatred to fester and breed unchecked, but at the same time we cannot be silent and allow our voices to fall silent. I think it will depend on how things go in the next weeks, specifically where people are migrating to as the dist settles from Meta’s content moderation changes and tik tok’s unsure future.
I have moved to bluesky, https://bsky.app/profile/aubelbooks.bsky.social but we must remember that each social media network is not guaranteed to be permanently available. This is why my website exists, so that as social media apps come and go there will always be a place I control where my books are available.
On that note, I want to tell you to keep fighting for your voice. I live in the United States and our right to free speech, among other civil liberties, is in danger. They want us to be silent. Alone. Disconnected. Ignorant. Do not allow them to make you believe their lies. You deserve knowledge. You deserve the right to speak freely. Part of that is consuming books, media, and materials they are trying to censor. So, keep reading, listening, and talking to your community. Keep educating yourself on truth.
